Hail to the King is the newest single by the famous heavy metal band Avenged Sevenfold. It came out at June 15th via the band’s Youtube page, and very soon got over a million views. To start off, I just want to say that this is very different from anything we have heard Avenged Sevenfold before. I have been a long time fan of A7X, and this song does not fit into neither the metalcore A7X(Waking the Fallen) nor the heavy metal A7X we have grown so familiar to(Avenged Sevenfold, Nightmare). It gives more of a slow, traditional metal, feel, almost like listening to a Metallica song. After listening to the track a few, times, I felt like I could not enjoy the track at all. It is a very simplistic song overall, with very basic instrumentals unlike what we have seen from previous A7X singles. The flow of this song goes very slowly, and the vocals as well as the instrumentals just seem to drag on. One good aspect of this song is that it does have a certain catchyness to it, particularly in the chorus, and I can already imagine fanboys of A7X repeatedly singing “Hail to the King” over and over. Although the chorus is decently catchy, it gets very boring after a few times I listened to the song. I honestly felt a bit disappointed, as I don’t think it even comes close to previous singles by Avenged, such as, but not limited to Nightmare, Almost Easy, Afterlife, and Unholy Confessions. I hope that this single doesn’t represent the entire album, and we get to here the epic and unique instrumentals featured as well as some awesome lyrics and great vocals we all know and love. Thanks for reading my review, and please leave a comment on whether you liked the song or not, and what you thought of my review!
